Thousands Stolen From Fire Hall

The Altoona Mirror reports that police have charged 54 year old James Walter of Altoona for allegedly stealing $10,500 from the Newburg fire company social hall while he was president. The report stated that Walter is accused of taking $3000 in Pa Skill Games money that was supposed to be used to purchase 100 portable tables. Walter claims to have met a person who was going to sell him the tables and could produce no evidence to back up his story. Then police say he is accused of taking $7500 in cash from the skills games from the social halls skill games revenues. The owner of the machines, says that he and Walter settled up weekly, and the owner gave Walter the clubs share of the proceeds, which turned up $7500 short between January and June of 2021. Walter is charged with theft and receiving stolen property.
