Homegrown Rocker Playlist/Recap 4/24/22

Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the April 24 edition of “The Homegrown Rocker,” which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Q94 Classic Rock!

This week, we welcomed our guest via phone, singer and guitarist Vinnie Longhi of western PA/West Virginia-based rockers The Semi-Supervillains (www.semisupervillains.com)! Vinnie discussed the band and its story, as well as the group’s latest album, Play That Rock And Roll – and we played tracks from the album! We also updated “Local Music News,” pulled a 1980 number from Pittsburgh new wave and MTV pioneers The Silencers for a “Local Music Flashback,” and reviewed Pierce Dipner’s Goin’ Back album in “The Professor’s CD Corner!” And we stepped “Across State Lines” to pay homage to blues guitar great David William Kearney – known as Guitar Shorty – who passed away on April 20 at age 87 (Guitar Shorty played in the area once, appearing at the American Ale House in State College in February, 2005.) (For those who missed the program, a four-part podcast of this show is available for listening or download from Q94’s website, www.q94classicrock.com. Click on “The Professor’s Classroom,” and then scroll down to “Homegrown Rocker Podcast” and look for the four show segments marked with the date, 042422.)

In Local Music News…

A new band project is rising from the ashes of former popular area band favorites This Albatross. The new band, Autumn Rising, features four-fifths of the previous This Albatross roster – with singer Autumn Shiffler, guitarist Kirk Robison, bassist P.J. Kelly and drummer Shawn Gioiosa. Scott Imler joins the group on guitar. Autumn Rising announced that their official onstage debut will take place on Saturday, June 11 at the annual Patton Firemen’s Jubilee in downtown Patton.

Williamsport area classic rockers Mason Dixon have announced the addition of their new singer, as Sheldon Johnson joins their roster. Mason Dixon’s next show will be May 15 at the Hogs Hollow Saloon in Berwick.

The former Day Of Rock benefit concert will return this year, but with a new name…The event will now be called the We Care Music Fest, and it will take place on Saturday, June 16 at Shawnee Park in Roaring Spring. The band line-up for this year’s event will be announced shortly. Proceeds from the We Care Music Fest will benefit the We Care Foundation of Central Pennsylvania.

A new bluegrass event will be taking place in Bedford during late June. The Bedford Bluegrass Bash will take place on June 25 and 26 at the Bedford County Fairgrounds. Entertaining at the event will be Dave Adkins, Little Roy & Lizzie, Echo Valley, Centerfire, the Hickory Bottom Band, Sounds of Grass, Black Diamond and Marshele Bradford Exchange. The event is being presented by the Bedford Fair and Soaring Eagle Productions. For more information, visit the event’s website, www.bedfordbluegrassbash.com.
