Here are pictures from Friday (Sept. 2), the first night of the September edition of the PA Roundhouse Rally Summer Series 2022 at Roundhouse Harley-Davidson near Duncansville.
The Pennsylvania Roundhouse Rally series closed out its season during Labor Day weekend. The Friday leg of the rally featured Altoona area favorites The Pennsoulvanians and Shallow 9 for the band entertainment, and the American Motor Drome Co.’s Wall Of Death returned to provide fun and thrills inside their silo-shaped wooden cylinder arena.
With Kent Tonkin handling bass duties this night, the Pennsoulvanians kicked off the music with two sets of their grooving mix of original soul, hip-hop, R&B, folk rock, reggae and more. It did not take long for audience members to become immersed in the Pennsoulvanians infectious grooves and melodies. And the group’s original numbers such as “Pennsoulvania,” “40 Acres,” “Day Has Come,” “Girl You Deserve to Be,” “Third Time” and the single “Swagger” drew more people onto the dance floor as the Pennsoulvanians proceeded.
Shallow 9 then filled the dance floor for the night’s duration with their two sets of high-octane, dance-inducing music. Singer and dance party ringleader Erika Marino-Ankeny, singer and guitarist Ryan Weaver, lead guitarist Greg Larrimore, bassist Mitch Neuder and drummer Todd Harshbarger kicked into their groove early on and never let up; triggering nonstop dance floor action with favorites from Blink-182, Commodores, Lenny Kravitz, Wheatus, The Outfield, Paula Abdul, Jimmy Eat World, Maroon 5, Panic at the Disco, Fall Out Boy, Alice Merton, Radiohead, Cranberries, Billy Idol and more. Shallow 9 also fused the Rolling Stones’ “Miss You” into Prince’s “Kiss,” and finished the night with their funky medley that strung together Wild Cherry’s “Play That Funky Music,” Parliament’s “Give Up the Funk,” Young MC’s “Bust A Move,” Nelly’s “Hot in Herre” and Mark Ronson/Bruno Mars’ “Uptown Funk.”
Staging shows at the top of each hour, the Wall Of Death featured riders taking antique Indian and Harley-Davidson motorcycles plus four-wheel carts around the inside wall of their cylindrical arena, increasing speeds and riding just inches from spectators near the top of the vertical wall.
Pictured are both bands, dancers, the Wall Of Death show, the Kawasaki Teryx 4 side-by-side (being given away at the end of the rally on the following night, Saturday), various vendors, the Allegheny Township Volunteer Fire Department (one of the beneficiaries of this weekend’s events) and more. And as always, the PA Roundhouse Rally is a 501c3 organization that helps out local charities with these summer weekend concert series. Thanks to everyone who attended and was part of the fun!
