Here are pictures from Saturday (May 27), the third night of the Memorial Day weekend edition of the PA Roundhouse Rally Summer Series 2023 at Roundhouse Harley-Davidson near Duncansville.
Three bands performed on Saturday, starting with Altoona’s Bone Jacked and their celebration of classic rock. Singer and guitarist Kip Woodring, bassist and singer D.J. Gates, lead guitarist Chris Guella and drummer Terry Wilt warmed up the arriving crowd with classic rock favorites from The Band, CCR, Tom Petty, Steppenwolf, Lynyrd Skynyrd, the Eagles, Stray Cats, T. Rex, George Thorogood, AC/DC, Pink Floyd and more. Bone Jacked delivered their tunes with heart and enthusiasm, and set the tone for this fun day of live rock on the Roundhouse Rally railcar stage.
Next was Altoona young gun rockers Sweet Desire, who followed with their classic-rooted sound. This group keeps dropping more jaws with their amazing, high-energy performance – lead singer Jordan McCaulley, lead guitarist Kenton Lewis, bassist Joshua Simpson and drummer Trey Boore very much capture the vibe and vigor of late 1960s/early 1970s hard rock, especially Led Zeppelin and Doors-styled blues rocking fury. They delivered several sharp-edged original songs, including their first single, “Raspberry Joe Blues.” They also dug deep into the classic rock archive for their treatments of songs such as Humble Pie’s “Four Day Creep,” Free’s “Walk in My Shadow” and Cactus’ “Evil,” as well as favorites like the Doors’ “Roadhouse Blues,” the Animals’ “House of the Rising Sun,” the Beatles’ “Helter Skelter – plus Led Zeppelin favorites like “Rock and Roll,” “Dazed and Confused,” and their feverish finale of “Communication Breakdown” into Rush’s “Working Man.” Sweet Desire sank full intensity and passion into their performance, and brought louder applause from the Roundhouse Rally crowd as they went along.
The night’s headliners, Long Island-based Motley Crue tribute Cruecified, slammed the lid on the weekend with their exciting celebration of Motley Crue and their music. Singer Vince Michael in the Vince Neil role, guitarist Mick Starz in the Mick Mars role, bassist Triple Sixxx in the Nikki Sixx role, and drummer Tommy Steel as Tommy Lee instantly triggered excitement from the crowd with their fiery delivery of Motley Crue classics. Vince probably sounded more like peak-era Vince than the real Vince Neil himself now does; he also worked the audience well, venturing into the middle of the crowd at several times during the show. Cruecified did all of the essential Crue favorites plus a few deeper cuts – their songs included the opener “Shout at the Devil,” “Too Fast for Love,” “Take Me to the Top,” “Piece of Your Action,” “Primal Scream,” “Wildside,” “Dancing on Glass,” “Rattlesnake Shake,” “Ten Seconds to Love,” “Louder Than Hell,” “Red Hot,” “On with the Show,” “Knock ‘Em Dead, Kid,” “Don’t Go Away Mad (Just Go Away),” “Smokin’ in the Boys Room,” “Same Ol’ Situation (S.O.S.), “Looks That Kill,” “Home Sweet Home,” “Dr. Feelgood,” “Live Wire,” Kickstart My Heart” and more. Vince sent the ballad “Without You”to his girlfriend in the crowd, and proceeded to slow-dance with her while singing. He brought the party to the crowd outside the stage area during “Too Young to Fall in Love.” Cruecified’s show escalated into a crescendo when the group did Crue’s “Girls Girls Girls” and welcomed the women in the crowd to join them on the stage, resulting in a stage packed full of dancing and grooving women. Cruecified clearly knew how to throw a rowdy Motley Crue party, and they convincingly slammed the lid on a fun PA Roundhouse Rally weekend.
The pictures show all three bands, plus the “Q Crew,” the 2023 120th Edition Harley-Davidson Fat Boy 114 being given away by the Pennsylvania Roundhouse Rally and Q94, Harley qualifying registrants at the Q tent, the outside bar area, motorcycles in the parking area, and other sights around the PA Roundhouse Rally grounds. Thanks everybody for coming out this weekend!
